Google Blog Search beta released

Google has released its blog search (in beta) you can check it out here google.com/blogsearch or blogsearch.google.com. This make Google the first major search engine to offer complete blog and feed search capabilities. Although most of the major search engines have played around in blog and feed search, none of them have offered a full-blown product until today.

Google defines blogs as sites that use RSS and other feeds, and update content on a regular basis. Google Blog Search is not a full-text search. Google says it will not crawl content that's disallowed by a Blogger. (robot.txt file)

Google Blog Search has an advanced search page that explains various commands that are available, including the link command. The link command is great for discovering who's linking to your blog or a post on your blog. But the most powerful command in my opinion is that a blog search can be saved as an RSS alert that's updated whenever new content is posted matching the query. This is a very cool feature. I will be discussing the power behind this command and show you how to us it in the next few days.

How to Get Links

Here is a good thread over at Threadwatch on link strategy. This thread will help you get more links to your website and help your quest in search engine marketing. (SEM)

The Million Dollar Homepage

This idea that is so crazy, it just may work. A soon to be collage student from a small town in Wiltshire, England does not wish to go into debt to pay for school so he has started a new website. "The Million Dollar Homepage" The idea is to sell pixels for $1.00 each and to try and make one million dollars doing so. The pixels will contain a link to any website you like and he has said that the site will be live for at least 5 years. You can see that the homepage has been divided into 10,000 of these 100-pixel blocks (hence there are 1,000,000 pixels in total). The reason for selling them in 100-pixel blocks is because anything smaller would be too small to display anything meaningful. The website has started getting some media attention witch you can see below:

Web

Newspapers

As of this post 8000 pixels have been sold. If you would like to help support a Business Management student and own a piece of internet histort stop by Alex Tew's site and check it out.

High-Tech Humvee will be used by Marine Corps

The Marines will begin testing two high-tech Humvees next month at a base in Twentynine Palms, Calif. The Humvees will be outfitted with the M2C2 or "Mobile Modular Command & Control", and will enable war zone commanders to see where their troops are heading and how close they are to the enemy. The equipment aboard each prototype cost about $1 million, but the Marines already own some of the machines used. Producing more of the M2C2 systems could also lower purchasing costs.Experts say the advanced satellite and wireless technology will save Marine lives in battle.

I love to see technology like this being used by our Marines. I have always felt that incorporating more technology into the tools that the armed forces are using would save lives.

What’s this blog all about?

Well I decided to start this weblog and see where it goes. Who knows, I may start blogging every day. I hope that you find this blog helpful and that it’s around for the long haul.

I want the focus of this blog to be fairly open. The main goal is for me to have an avenue to discuss web-based software technologies. As an entrepreneur by nature, I will also be discussing internet based marketing and how the internet can help your business. From time to time I plan to review newly launched web businesses, products and services.

Every once in a while I'll write something a little more personal, reflecting my opinions on current events and sometimes even politics.
